All About Craft Candle Making At Home

Out of all of the different arts and crafts I find that craft candle making is not only my favorite, but the favorite and most popular of many other "crafters". So why is craft candle making so popular and why are more and more people trying it out and making it a regular project? Well there are a wide variety of different reasons for this, for example candle making is not as time consuming as quilting or knitting and can be done on a large scale, even in your own home you can easily make several candles at once.

Another reason why craft candle making is growing in popularity is because it is fairly inexpensive in comparison to many other arts and crafts, you can literally get some of the supplies for less than a dollar each like the wicks and wick tabs for example. If you are new to making candles and want to know the basic procedure to make a candle, in order to see if you enjoy the craft or not, then here are the most basic instructions, naturally, if you want to become more advanced then further reading and supplies are going to be needed. The following steps are just to help start you out in craft candle making.

Step # 1. The first thing that you are going to want to do is to gather all of the supplies that you are going to need for this project. The following supplies are needed: candle wax, wick, wick tabs, thermometer, double boiler, candle mold, carving knife, a spoon, and some olive oil or vegetable oil.

Step # 2. Now prepare the mold first, what you are going to want to do is wipe the inside with the oil, this is going to make it so that it does not stick to the inside of the mold later on when it dries. Now string the wick through the wick tab and place the wick tab in the center of the mold, make sure that it is center so that the candle does not come out uneven.

Step # 3. Now prepare the wax, this is the most important part of craft candle making, you are going to want to take it slow. Fill the bottom pot half way up with water and cut the wax in to chunks and place them in to the top pot. Boil the water and begin to stir the wax, make sure that you stir it often and check the temperature as it should melt at around 160 to 190 degrees.

Step # 4. When the wax is ready simply pour it in to the mold, if you want to be safe use a ladle. Let the wax sit for 24 hours. When this time has passed simply remove the candle from the mold and trim the wick, that is the basic procedure for craftcandle making!
